Am I “Trying” to Be a Coach?

I was at my son’s baseball game a few nights ago and I ran into a mom of one of the players who is also a real estate agent from another brokerage.  I’m always curious to talk to agents, it’s just my thing…I love real estate agents!  So of course, I asked, “How is your business going?” I genuinely want to know. I want to share and find a common bond with others of my own breed. I mean, let's face it, real estate agents are a unique breed! Those of us who can endure this industry day in and day out, let alone those of us who have a passion for it and live for it.  

As we talked about how difficult it is these days if you are representing buyers and how great it is to represent sellers, she mentioned, “So, you are trying to be a coach?” …For some reason that took me by surprise.  I had to take a step back and think about that for a minute.  Why did she say that? And why did it surprise me? 

I’m sure she’s seen my Agent of Change emails come through.  I’m sure there may be some skepticism. What is this Agent of Change Platform? Why are you spending time sharing interviews and hosting training events open to agents at all experience levels from all brokerages? You must want to make money… 

As I reflected, I said out loud, “No, I am not trying to be a ‘coach’.”  I am a coach. I am an “encourager”. I was born to be an encourager. I was a national champion cheerleader for Pete's sake (a million years ago!) Do you like how I added a national champion? I’m also very competitive.  

In all seriousness, I am a real estate agent who has put in years of  “blood, sweat, and many, many tears” growing myself and my own business, then our family and our family’s business, and now it has become my passion and my calling to help others to grow themselves and their businesses. It’s what I’m meant to do and what I love doing. 

So, that is why I’ve created this Agent of Change Platform- not to “make money selling coaching” but to have a platform to encourage and unite my kind, my people… the real estate agents out there who were also born to encourage and help others who are grinding to make this self owned business work because they know in their own hearts, it’s what they were meant to do!
